Having reviewed some VPS solutions of late, I was attracted to the package being offered by www.dediserve.com. I first read about them a couple of weeks ago, through Silicon Republic, and was keen to get introduced to the company
I “tweeted” them for a trial, and eventually got a reply telling me “an account had been created for me and feel free to login and review”. Logging in couldn’t be easier, and I had in front of me a control panel similar to an VMware ESXi infrastructure client.
I have the option of all the common and up-to-date flavors of Linux including Ubuntu, CentOS, and Debian 5.0. These VM’s can be recreated, deleted in minutes, with an automated mail letting you know when they’re complete. I setup a simple ftp server, and transferred files to and from the solution with exceptionally high bandwidth speeds!
The control Panel has the option of Backing up, Emergency Console access, and power on/off. A well thought out dashboard which you can also monitor bandwidth (of which there was more than enough), CPU, allocated bandwidth, and also the IP address assigned to you all from a https page! My only gripe about this solution is the core means of access is ssh, something I am not overly confident with. I have suggested to the guys that they include an optional VNC connection, to allow ease of access for the not so geeky open source users and they have taken it on board.
In summary, the packages are competitively priced, support is quick, bandwidth is flawless, and the Dashboard is easy to use and well designed. I just hope the guys don’t turn off my freebie as I’m getting used to this VPS solution!!
